It's fun being a kid. There's really no two ways about it. I watch my seven year old and her daily lifestyle and it's pretty
darn laid-back. She basically gets up for school Monday through Friday, I pick her up at 3:20, she comes home and eats and watches cartoons, she
goes outdoors to play with her friends, she comes in to eat dinner that's always prepared for her, she takes a bath with plenty of toys, and she
goes to sleep.
When your sister's birthday rolls around – again – do you sometimes feel at a loss for ideas? Do you feel like Mom always ends up

For most people, their 18th birthday is one of great importance. Legally, it means that they are old enough to vote, go to war,
and are deemed "adults". Most 18 year olds find themselves just graduating from high school at that age and entering college, or getting
ready for their next life journey. For my 18th birthday, I was getting ready to begin my first year of college and ecstatic that I would be
able to vote in that fall's presidential election. I had made sure to know as much as I could about all of the candidates so that I could
not only vote, but make an educated decision as to what party I felt represented my own beliefs. I did vote that fall, very proudly. The
candidate that I had voted for did win and I was happy to know that my one vote had made somewhat of a difference.

First Birthday
A child's first birthday party is a special time, but not just for the child. In reality, parents send out first birthday
party invitations because they want other people to come and share in their joy. The first time I received a 1st birthday
invitation, I thought it was kind of a silly gesture to be honest. The thing is, 1st birthday invitations seemed so
unnecessary. After all, the kid was just barely learning her first words. She kind of seemed to know that something special was
going on, and of course she loved having all the attention, but attention was nothing new to her being a baby. So why go through all
the effort of having nice fancy 1st birthday invitation, anyway?
Now that I have kids of my own, I understand the 1st birthday invitation
better. Human life is so fragile, and none more fragile than the life of a new baby. The first birthday party is somewhat of a
milestone in any child's life. Most cases of infant mortality, after all, happen within the first year nowadays, so by sending out a 1st
birthday party invitation, the parents are not only celebrating the child's first birthday, but also the very fact that he or she has made it
that far.
In the UK, the milestone for birthdays used to be twenty-one. Then, the voting age was
reduced to eighteen and this caused a lot of confusion. My parents gave me a choice of having an 18th birthday party or one for my 21st. I
chose to have a 21st because the idea of eighteen being the new landmark was new and it didn't feel right yet. Nowadays, there is still a
hangover from 21st birthdays being special and this is where the confusion comes in. A lot of young people end up having big birthday
bashes when they are eighteen and again, when they are twenty-one. They get two for the price of one and that doesn't seem fair!
Let's face it, if you're looking at your 60th birthday coming right up, it can be a shocker and a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it's hard
to believe you're 60 years old. You may not look it, you probably don't feel it, but the fact is there as plain as the nose on your face! On the
other hand, sixty years of living has given you experience, wisdom and if you're lucky, family, children and even grandchildren to treasure.
October Birthstones Each and every month of the year has its own birthstone. This usually means little to men, but to women it typically dictates at least some of the jewelry they’ll wear. For someone born in April, they get to wear rings and earrings with a diamond. Those who celebrate birthdays in July can often be seen sporting a ruby.
